Retractable Phone Cord - Make Your Old-Fashioned Phone Convenient

If you are still using a traditional corded phone (gasp!) in today’s cellular world, you may be in the minority.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?  Regular corded phones tend to have better sound quality, and they can be much more comfortable to hold and rest against the shoulder if you need to do something with your hands.  However, one common inconvenience of a corded phone, especially if you do, in fact, multi-task while talking, is the long length of cord sweeping over your tables, counters, or other surfaces, and knocking off items and papers.  Even when the phone is hung up, a long cord can still become tangled or get in the way – or just look unsightly.

One way to solve this problem is by purchasing a retractable phone cord.  This is a very simple device which contains a reeled-up length of phone cord inside a central unit, with a phone jack on both ends.  Unplug your existing curly cord from the base and the handset, and plug in either end of your retractable phone cord.  When you answer the phone and move away from the base, the unit will automatically release the amount of cord necessary – no more, no less.  When you’re done talking, just walk the handset back to the base.

See how convenient it is?  If you are convinced that a retractable phone cord is the option for you, consider purchasing Jasco’s Retract-A-Cord model.  These come in lengths of 8 and 16 feet, in a silvery clear color, or in black.  It has a strong retractable reel, though, so it is best used with heavier phones or phones that are mounted on the wall – otherwise it might drag the base along with you.  The sound quality is generally perfect, and it retracts well, though you will want to treat it gently and be sure to walk it back to the base instead of letting it just snap along.  And for the price (between $10 and $20), you will likely find it a great value.

Just think of the time (and money!) you’ll save by not having to replace dishes that were broken as your extra-long cord swept across your kitchen island, or having to re-organize all the bills you JUST neatly stacked up on your dining room table.  Even though you and your corded phone may be a little old-fashioned, that doesn’t mean you can’t be as comfortable as possible.
